Away to Montana...

Heading out to Montana today, to the IEEE Aerospace Conference in Big Sky, MT. My paper on Icebreaker mission drilling is scheduled to be the second overall in the whole meeting, 4:20pm Sunday afternoon, so I have to travel today... losing my weekend. I'd be happier about it if I were a skier or snowboarder. OTOH, datagoddess will meet me there, and I haven't seen her in over a year. :-)

I have a longstanding agreement with patgreene and the kids that I'll be home the night before and night after a business trip, so that meant being home last night. Although it was also the 5-year anniversary for myself and cyan_blue. We solved this conflict by my taking Geri out Thursday night to Vaso Azzuro and staying over at a long-time favorite, the San Benito House in Half Moon Bay. Home of some of the best bread I've ever eaten, and the place where Pat and I spent our first evening together in California (in 1984). It has dumped the 80s B&B pastels and Laura Ashley, in favor of a more-retro-restoration early 1900s look... sharp contrasts, dark exposed wood, white walls.

Geri and I then spent yesterday roaming up and down the coast, taking my weekend in advance... stopping by the ghost town of Purissima, picnic lunch on a deserted beach (thanks to CA state parks closures... we hiked in from Rt 1), geocaching, walking among tidal pools at Seal Cove. Then a dinner together with Pat, and an early night.
