tongue-icons

A mild curiosity... for those of you who communicate using emoticons in text of whatever mode (IM/SMS/teletypes/whatever), what meaning do you assign to the use of :-P ?

I've always parsed it as stuck-out-tongue, an indication of mild anger or upset, or possible disrespect (depending on context). My reaction to seeing it is generally "uh-oh, they're pissed-off at me about something".

In conversation with datagoddess this morning, however, she indicates that for her it is just empty silliness, a sort of funny-ping with no attached meaning. So now I'm curious what others use it to mean?
